Desire
"Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life." - Proverbs 13:12
"A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul..." - Proverbs 13:19b
Everybody has desires. Every person dreams of success. But there are two kinds of dreamers. One person dreams and works very hard to achieve his dream. Another person dreams, but does little or nothing to fulfill his dream except fantasize and indulge in wishful thinking about the future. The one big difference between these two types of dreamers is their level of desire.
Desire is an intense, inward appetite for something. It is a hunger, craving, longing, or thirst that causes a person to yearn and lust for a certain goal or object. This strong, inward desire becomes a driving force, an all-consuming ambition that does not stop until it obtains the coveted prize. Desire can become so powerful that it literally compels you to get up and take the necessary steps to achieve your divine destiny.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
There is a godly ambition to be the best at whatever God has called you to do. A person who is satisfied with being mediocre or possessing little will never achieve much. On the other hand, a person who is full of desire for excellence will never be satisfied with a low-level performance in his or her life.
"Our destiny is determined, not by what we possess, but by what possesses us." - John Maxwell
Sadly, there are people who do not possess a godly desire to be excellent in everything they do. Some have grown up in environments where low-level thinking and performance were viewed as normal so they accept that standard for their own lives. However, they only hurt themselves if they use that as an excuse for staying mediocre.
People without strong desire casually stroll through life at their own pace, accepting low-level standards and results. They do not take advantage of opportunities to learn and better themselves and therefore never experience the needed change to succeed. They just do not seem to care or apply themselves.
"You must do the very thing you think you cannot do." - Eleanor Roosevelt
Many people who dream of success will never experience it because they do not desire it enough. They are not willing to put out the effort required to make their dream come to pass. Do not be that kind of person. Let the desire that God has put within your heart consume you and compel you to be the best at whatever He has for you!
"Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is." - Vince Lombardi
